Galena Wardle is our first recipient of a scholarship from Karl's Foundation.  New to the US Ski Team in 2016, hailing from the USSA's Team Academy, Galena started skiing at the age of 14 months with her parents, who are both ski instructors in Aspen/Snowmass.  She'd spend her childhood splitting time between Aspen in the winter and Las Leñas, Argentina in the summer, where her parents worked.  Between the mountains of Aspen and Las Leñas, she learned how to ski and acquired a strong passion for the sport.  When she was eight, she started ski racing at Aspen Valley Ski Club and from then on knew she wanted to be the best in the world.  Galena has her sight set on competing on the World Cup circuit and knows that she has to push and work harder than ever to reach her goal.

Galena in the news:

March 2, 2016: Galena was the top American at the FIS Junior World Championships in Sochi, Russia  competing in the women's giant slalom.

March 23, 2016: National Champion on Super Combined in Sun Valley, ID.  (super G and SL).

Dear Mark and Maddie,
I just finished up a few speed races in Aspen. It was really fun to race on my home hill. I am now in Vail for 3 tech races and then will head to Sun Valley for U.S Nationals.
I wanted to thank you for the generous scholarship from the foundation. I am so thankful for your support and honored to represent the foundation in Karl’s memory.
I will let you know about my summer plans and training camps as I learn more.
Thank you for the unwavering support over the years.
Love,
Galena
