Ryder is extremely active and has proven himself to be an athlete in many ways. He enjoys baseball, football, basketball and he is a member of the Crown Mountain Biking Team (doing aerial tricks). He is a very good baseball player (catcher) especially for his size and age, but his true passion is time spent on the ski slopes in Snowmass and Aspen. Specifically, spending his time being coached by the AVSC Freestyle Park and Pipe Team Coaches. He has been drawn to the slopes since he was 2 and at age 6 the desire to compete was quite strong.

An email from his father this winter:

Hi Mark and Maddie,

I wanted to let you know that Ryder broke his left thumb last Saturday morning. He got a splint on it Saturday afternoon. Nurse Kelley at the afterhours clinic in Basalt, gave us the recipe next week. RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation and ibuprofen, would help with the pain and swelling….'“AND NO Competitions!”

After a better than anticipated sleep Saturday night, Ryder woke up on his own, got himself dressed by himself, got his own ibuprofen and asked if he could compete. We said, yes.

17 kids were registered to compete on Sunday’s first in this Valley’s, USASA Rail Jam at Snowmass. For the first time in a long time Ryder skied without poles and he took the Silver Medal!

Last Monday evening the fine folks at Steadman put Ryder in a cast and it appears pretty bomb proof. We will keep you posted.
